The Loneliness of Blah
Describe what you are about in four words or less.
“Blah of the blah.”
I don’t know how to get people to read this blog. I have a lot of time to kill at my job, so I have a lot of time to figure out all the ins and outs of blog visibility. I started research by looking at my boy Seth Godin’s blog to see how he did it.
- “Technorati, huh? What’s that?”
- “Del period icio period us? Oh, I get it! Haha. It spells delicious. Delicious. That’s clever. “
- “Oh I know Digg. It’s on YouTube. I dig it.”
Two days, six confirmation emails, and as many new passwords to remember, I was all signed up for these communities that are going to take my blog to the top.
Sorry, I’m getting sidetracked. The point is, I was checking my description on Technorati, and I noticed that it said,
“What Joe Bunting is about:”
“role of the artist“
Role of the artist? What does that even mean? I started thinking about it and I realized that according to Technorati, I’m about trying to figure out what I’m about.
Well that sucks. Wouldn’t you rather be about good music or pretty women or even gaming. Because if you’re about something, then at least people can find you. At least someone else will be interested in what I have to say. If you’re not about anything, or if you’re about trying to find something to be about, then how is anyone going to know what you’re about?!
And how is anyone going to find out?
Here’s the thing, Seth Godin knows who he is. He’s the guy that tells people to figure out who they are, and because he knows who is, he is successful. He is able to be the best at his particular area of excellence and explain himself in a simple, fascinating way.
I don’t know who I am or what I’m about, and that makes it impossible for me to be successful.
So, back to the start. What are you about? in four words or less.
